Trike Accident on December 2006

I didn’t know weather to upload this photos, but then I decided that it is a reminder for all of us to fly safe. This Trike belonged to a friend of mine, the problem he had was stubbornness, I had never seen a person as stubborn as he was, all of us tried to reason with him and he just didn’t listen, actually we had him banned from our group because we all sow this coming. What happened was that his wing was so old that the fabric ripped, as you can see he had some blue patches sown on the fabric, this was hand made! He unfortunately took off with a passenger, and his sale ripped from leading edge to trailing edge near the keel on the right side of the wing we think. Analyzing the accident we concluded that he just dropped from the sky because there was no indication on the sugar cane of forward motion. Lets all Fly Safe not only on our flying but also on how we maintain our precious Trikes...

Wow! Replacing the fabric only of the wing is not that expensive. What is the condition of the passenger and pilot?

It can happen to a new wing too. A friend of mine had just 3 hours on his wing, forgot the brand, manufactered in Hungry, it was a full dual surface wing...it failed in flight when he was 200 feet AGL. He spun in, crashed on sand, and lived. But broke his hip, leg, ankle, and some ribs. He has since gone back to flying the Wizard 2 wing.

I'm sorry about your friend and companion. I had always cared more for certain screws holding large loads that the very fabric of the wing, but I see that is not an issue to ignore. You say that the wing was made by hand?. you know that fabric used and how many flight hours and exposure to UV rays could have that wing? Thank you.
