Douglas Lee Yes, I tried it and didn't like it. One intro lesson in a tandem glider was enough for me to realize I needed to get back into trike flying. And yes I was a trike instructor under the old exemption to the FAR's which allowed training in a non N numbered two seat ultralight trainer. My designation at that time was an ultralight BFI (basic flight instructor). That was done away with in favor Sport Pilot. However I never converted over to Sport Pilot and now I would like to get back into flying and find that I need to satisfy the requirements of Sport Pilot. However I don't want to spend a lot of money to do it. I tried an intro tandem hang glider lesson thinking maybe hang gliders would be a cheap and easy way to get back into the air. While I found it easy to fly the glider it wasn't as fulfilling as trike flying as far as satisfying my flying addiction. I hope I have now explained myself thoroughly enough to satisfy you. If not, then please keep asking me questions and I will attempt to provide you with answers that you may finally find acceptable.

Andy Hughes Maybe focus on the quality of instruction and the instructors credentials instead of price

Douglas Lee I already know how to fly. Was a weight shift BFI. Just need to transition to Sport Pilot as cheaply as possible.

Andy Hughes You mentioned in the hang gliding forum you were looking for weight shift training as you were already a trike instructor? http://forum.hanggliding.org/viewtopic.php?t=35056

Douglas Lee Looking for information on where to buy a foot throttle assembly that will be easily adaptable to the Tukan square tube nose wheel design. Or a simple home made foot throttle. The design in the Kemmeries Tukan plans requires quite a bit of cutting and welding which I would like to avoid if there is something off the shelf I can purchase and bolt on or a simple fab and bolt solution. Any advice appreciated.

Douglas Lee My question wasn't about what brand to buy. It was about tread type. Ribbed or smooth. I have pretty much decided to go with smooth due to less chance of picking up trash and hitting the prop.

Rizwan Bukhari OK, i meant to say aero trainer brand ribbed tires. i used them on my last trike with the recommendation from Trike pilots in our group and i liked them.

Douglas Lee I went with the Azusa ribbed. Had them on my last trike and had no problems.

Douglas Lee If there is a classified section on this forum I'm not seeing it. Can't find a button to push or way to navigate to it. It's probably staring me in the face so it will be embarrassing when someone tells me how to access it.

About

I was a BFI weight shift & 3 axis under the old ultralight rules but haven't flown in about 15 years and am now wanting to get back into it. I'm building a Tukan under FAR Part 103 rules. I built one years ago that I used for instruction but now just want to be able to get into the air from time to time with no passenger to worry about and the ability to repair and modify without the governments involvement.
