Nah, it's also used for 'shaking the dew off the 'feathers' prior to climb out.

That's very cool! If it's done with a double surface wing, how much less is the effect in your opinion Larry? Half?

OHH, ok, I get it. I thought Larry was trying to flap his wings for lift in a forth attempt. lol, That was cool to see Larry and I hadn't ever seen that skill before. Added to toolbox, :)

Bingo Leo! "Stirring the Stick" is the term used to disrupt airflow and de-energize the aircraft. Pulling Gs takes energy and kills glide. I had too much energy coming out of the last turn... a long flare would have hurt my time and a hotter ...

Only term I can think of is a forward slip, although clearly Trikes don't slip in the traditional sense. Still, it seems to me from watching the video you reduced a lot of airspeed by making that move with the wing.

Leo, fixed wing Pilots have a term for it. And you are close on the reason, but it targets something else primarily and not altitude.

Not sure what it's called Larry, but clearly those moves caused a loss of altitude without gaining much speed.

I accidently deleted my comment, what basically I said was that Lucian is talking about major differences. Like for example 80 hp vs 100 hp, better Brakes, single vs double surface. Etc And also I loved Larry's flaring, I have never seen anyone ...

There is a name for what I did at the end. Who knows what that's called and what that is used for? Again the single surface has the advantage over double surface.

Yes Lucian I understand what you said about ski racing and appreciate your explaining the details for everyone. It helps prove the point that (AGAIN) it is almost impossible to make everything equal for this competition "same trike, same weight, ...

Larry, I did not mention pylon racing because that is a race and its obvious that the faster wing, best prop and biggest engine is going to win, with the assumption that the top pilots are all going to be very close in skill level, so that is mute ...

If you wanted to make everything equal, same trike, same weight, same density altitude, same wind, same grass wetness, same this/that, everything so it is only pilot skill that would be almost impossible and not worth the effort. Simple, easy. ...

I had a great time at Wingfest this year. I was at the 3 circles completion. It is a fun event to watch skilled pilots with this task. I attend an invitational only "Ultralight Family Day" held annually at Oshkosh on Fathers Day weekend. We have ...

On the contrary, I have found most trike competitions ARE highly dependent on the equipment to win. Back in 2009 I went to the world Air Games in Italy and was racing around pylons where the speed of the trike was 90% of the competition. Heck I ...

Hi Wes, Thanks for the DVD, love it, for a new person into this with only 26hours on the clock and just purchased my own Airborne 912, I am loving what I am doing. Larry's DVD is excellent it arrived in Australia today 5/1/11 and I started to watch straight away, some great tips that reinforce what my CFI is telling me and some that I am not aware of, little bit more advanced but thanks it is a great help, cheers from Oz. Wes congrats by the way on getting your CFI!! have flown over 200 hrs out here on the island in 4 1/2 months. That is quite a bit. Learning constantly. Not a day goes by without it. When does your revo arrive? And please let me know how the 12.5 meter reflex works out for you! That little 11 sure is responsive, but i am glad to have it with the kind of conditions I have to deal with! Aloha tell Marsha I said hello. Fly safe
