Man, that looks great. I'll be borrowing it from you Damien. I have split rims and have always had trouble with pinching the tube. This guy will probably work well on split rims too. Glad you were able to rotate them.

Despite having to commute 800 miles on a regular basis, it was well worth the training you and Damien have given me.Anyone wanting to take lessons from Frank and/or Damien...you will not be short changed. These guys are about as thorough and complete as you can be. They spend far FAR more time with their students than their 'hourly rate" which to me is proof that their passion for the sport is far more than extra pocket change. They truly love what they do and it shows. Thanks again so much for your time and patience. Its an experience that I will be sure to use throughout my flying years.

I've resorted to using Paul Hamilton's approach. I put a thermostatically controlled 1000 watt heater about a foot away from my engine cowling and set it to turn on at about 40 degrees F. The heater is additionally on a timer set for 4AM to 9AM. ...

Thanks for the photo Garret. I've got the same heater. I put it on a timer this morning along with 150 watt electric heater around the oil sump. I set the timer for 1 hour. The engine started on the first click but it wasn't too cold this morning. ...

This is not my picture but it is exactly the same as one I created for myself just like Paul mentioned above. The hardest part for me was finding a sleeping bag that was long enough to get some good length draping down either side of the engine. I ...

I have used a small ceramic heater under the engine area with a sleeping bag draped over the engine. Works fairly well. Takes about an hour if hanger is cold to get oil temp above 32 degree F. I also move the prop around to circulate the oil. I ...

Ken, I installed 8 inch aluminum flex ducting to the exit and some stabilizers to the bottom to keep it from tipping over. Will take a picture of it today and post it. Just 1000 or 1500 watt steel industrial looking heater I got at Home Depot. ...

Paul - What brand/model type of heater are you using to feel safe that you are free of any fire or melting hazard?

I might give the battery blanket a try. Between motorcycles and trikes I've "toasted" a few batteries in cold weather.

Thanks for all the great advice. Tracy Tomlinson has a $500 Aero-therm aircraft heater that he puts on a timer. It's made to hook up to a cowling with foam inserts and blows warm air in one side and suck the cold out the other side. It's a closed ...

I use a heat gun to warm the engine. You must be careful using one ( a blow dryer might be a safer choice). I have a lot of experience using a heat gun to strip varnish. You really learn to control the distance required to warm things up without ...

I have always had problems starting in cold temps. Yesterday morning it was 25 deg. and I had to jump the battery on the trike. I've found that a big part of the problem is that the battery is suppressed. Using a trickle charge over night keeps ...

I have found what works best and is very simple is to put a sheet over the engine with a 1000 or 1500 watt heater under it on a timer and it heats everything two hours before startup - oil - engine block - everything. No hot oil into cold engine. ...
