Peter Dessart Injured in Accident

Peter was in an accident in New Zealand this past Wednesday, December 16.

He was doing a go-around in his Airborne XTS 912, when he had an "engine out" at low altitude...he guessed about 200" AGL.  There were vineyards in front of him and he said he," had the choice of going either into a house or into a row of trees".  He choose the trees and flew the trike all the way in.

He damaged vertebrae L2 and L3 but there is no spinal cord damage.  There is also a broken rib (or ribs- I'm trying to be as accurate as I can with limited information) and a broken elbow and he's very banged up, as you can well imagine.  They say he'll be in a brace for his back for three months and he's not sure how long he'll remain in the hospital in Auckland, New Zealand.  No surgeries are planned.

Peter sounded reasonably well as we chatted and said he obviously would not be able to make the planned flight home to California tomorrow.  He started to make a bit of a joke but stopped himself because he said it hurt like hell to laugh with broken ribs.

If you would like to extend good wishes to Peter:
