After a 5 hour ordeal, I was able to extact the magnetic plug off my 912 and replace it with the new version that has a decent hex head on it.

Man, that was cool. Thanks for sharing with us David and Henry. I flew my hangglider once long ago off Ft Funston and got 1000 ft up where I could see the Golden Gate far away. I would love to return. David, to carry gas, keep it simple. Just ...

At 0.05 you can see the round chute get come out of what's left of the cockpit. Possible BRS type deployment. Is the paraglider type chute a PPG? It seems to maintain altitude. What is it doing floating around in the same airspace as the ...

One thing to remember about virga. If you see it on the horizon, chances are its out of sight, directly above you too.

jeff trike I Googled "912 magnetic plug" and got a huge pile of hints. I ended up removing the exhaust pipe, oil filter and the oil pump, then fileing the top and bottom of the soft aluminum magnetic plug flat. I intended to use a open end wrench on it, but the plug ultimately yielded to my vise grips. It you still have the old style plug with the torx bit hole in the center, replace it now before the hole strips out.

Great sound track for the flying sequences. With those spinning rotor blades, "One of these days. I'm going to cut you into little pieces!"

I talked to EAA about flying into Canada under Sport Pilot. You need a 3rd class medical, and then you can get written permission from the Canadian CAA on a case by case basis to fly into Canada.

    Rizwan,
My Aerotrike Cobra originally had a Rotax 503 on it. I flew it without any problems for 275hrs. I wanted something with more power, and a less frequent overhaul schedule. I initially looked into putting an HKS on it, but was dissuaded by several experienced trike pilots who said I would waste a lot of time and money in rigging an engine mount for it.

Aerotrike offered a 912 kit that made the task much simpler. It included a new engine mount, exhaust system, throttle and choke cables and splitters, plumbing, carbheat kit, and lots of mounting brackets.

I bought the engine separately. Bought a DVD on how to install a Rotax 912 engine and spent 4 months working on it in my garage. It was a tough job.

One advantage of putting the 912 on is that I know that trike and engine inside and out, and since I plan to keep flying if for a long time, I can do a better job at maintaining it.

If you look on my webpage, www.jeffsflightlog.com and go to the year 2006 and pull up the flightlog "2009/09/25 Supertrike" to read more of the details.

Jeff, you said that you installed a 912 on your trike by yourself. Was it a 582 trike before? My friend Tom flies an Aerotrike cobra that has a 582 in it. I learned to fly on it..Awesome trike. But my question was did you convert a 582 trike to 912? How did you do it? Did you have custom made mounts? If you could educate me a bit, I would be very thankful to you.
