Interesting video link, Chuck. Although this appeared to me as a marketing video, the comparisons do make sense to a point. Polycarbonate is the reference material used in safety glasses, for good reason. Stands to reason it would make for a ...

Looks like a Peg. I have the same. Is it removable for fold-down? Acrylic or polycarbonate? I’m considering a thin Lexan (poly) that could be made foldable and attached permanently. That will be my next experiment. I’m currently ...

I have an "EL Gearbox Generator". It's a ROTAX 582 accessory with a 230 watt ac electric output that inserts between PTO end and gearbox. I'd like to wire it but wonder if it's ac output can be hard wired to existing Key West regulator with the 170 watt ac output of the lighting coil output (2 yellow/black wires)?

I worry that connecting to same Key West regulator terminals as lighting output leads will damage either lighting or generator circuits?

Of course I can simply add a second Key West regulator and have two 12 volt electric output sources.

Anyone else out in trike world have this setup? How did you wire?

    Thanks,

    Dave

About 9 months ago, I bought a new set of exhaust springs for my 912. I was doing a routine replacement of springs- the shiny stainless ones I had looked fine, and none had ever broken. I ordered "Genuine Rotax" replacements from LEAF (Leading Edge AirFoil) - as they were recommended by CPS as CPS was out of stock. The springs were $22. When they came, I noticed they were dark steel (apparently carbon steel) not shiny stainless like the ones I was replacing. I think I called LEAF to ask why the difference, but can't remember now. anyway, I put them all on. I think within the first week, my first spring broke- I didn't have replacements, so I put one of the prior shiny ones back on. Then another, and another broke. They also got a coat of rust on them very quickly. Soon, I called Lockwood and told them what was happening, and asked for a set of good springs- I paid $26 and got a set of black springs just like the ones that were breaking. I didn't put them on, I shoulda returned them, but just was kinda unsure as to what to do.

Fortunately, Henry did some web searching and found a company called JBM Industries- they apparently specialize in higher quality replacement parts for Rotax items that are failure prone (apparently even the two-stroke oil cap, I'm told). The springs were twice as expensive ~$42, but came nice shiny stainless steel- the same apparent quality as the ones I had replaced that had been doing fine previously. I just put them on 2 days ago, so I can't say I've tested them, but I feel better already.

Hi guys, I have no hangar and need to disassemble my trike every time finish flying. My garage door is too low and I need to collapse the mast post to pass the door frame and then lift it again. This is really a nightmare, when I have nobody to help me. I'm thinkink of adding some gas struts obtween mast and trike keel tubes (and between mast and front strut tubes) to make trike folding easier. Is that completely silly idea? Why? If not, any advises, gas strut parameters, pictures... anything what could help me. Thanks.

Something the group might find useful, FAA-8083-30 Aviation Maintenance Technician Handbook. Covers a number of topics, and can be downloaded.

    Tom,
I just rechecked the links I listed below, they work. Just copy and paste them into your browser. Or go to Rotaxparts.net and search for "racor" there.

Tom, I use Motul 510 Powerlube 2T Premix, Ironically we have a distributor hire in El Salvador...... Remember when ordering your spark plug to get the ones equivalent from the NGK B8ES to the Iridium one. I don't remember the number I would have to see what I have installed on my trike to give you the exact one.
