Hi
I have a few trike videos I would like to post Wink
I notice most here seem to host on Vimeo, others use Utube, and then other I am not sure where.
Are there differences in locations / which is best and what do you think the advantages / disadvantages are.

Ray,
I have used almost all the video hosting sites, they each have pro and cons. Vimeo is the best for HD videos but if you have a slow internet connection or a older computer the videos don't play or play slow. Youtube is fine, the problem there is they delete your sound track if you use commercial music. Trikepilot restricts the size of the video then the quality of a larger video isn't that good again. I think it all depends on what you want to upload, if it is a small video clip Trike Pilot is fine, if you use public music or no music Youtube is fine, if you have a good internet connection and a computer with at least 2 GB Ram Vimeo is the best but others might not see the video. You also have to take in consideration the file format you are uploading, you need to check the site to see what they prefer. Any other opinions would also help me.

Hi Ray,
Spence here.

I have a bit of knowledge on this topic and can suggest the pros / cons of hosting from personal and business experience:

  1. Youtube - Easy, free, fast... but as Jan states, they mess with your videos and it is a crapshoot to control your content. Good for quick and dirty solution;
  2. Vimeo - Get a pro account and you can control your content, membership, distribution and still get reasonably fast encoding without waiting in line. We have used them for over three years for all our professional needs and it was "the best" for most of those. Sad to say... it's not any longer. They've become fat and bloated and lazy (sorry Vimeo, it's true). I can no longer recommend them as highly;
  3. Blip.tv - If you are going to do a series of videos (like a show), this is the best solution I can advise for free. They aren't the choice if you are just doing a video here or there, but if you are going to do regular "show" format of some kind, then they rock for distribution and speed and quality of options;
  4. Megaupload - the king of inexpensive HD distribution. This is a place to go if you want to pay a small amount for an monthly or annual membership, but have UNLIMITED HD hosting and distribution. One of the best and fastest servers in the world, and great tools for embedding your content elsewhere;
  5. FULL REVIEW COMPARISON is available HERE on Wikipedia. Check it out for more ideas.

Busy making the most of the good weather at present - and

Might be some rain coming next week.
