Hi guys, im a new canadian trike pilot and im looking to buy a gps that has the vfr charts in it, i made lots of research and it feels like i only have 2 options.

1st a garmin 796/696 allow me to putchase the vfr charts for canada

2nd a ipad with Foreflight

They both have annual fee, i heard from a lot of pilot on other forums that the ipad tends to overheat and shutdow but i guess for a trike that might not apply.

Anyone got other suggestions?

I am checking out this app. It has "virtual radar", that will show the position of other aircraft flying with this app.
This is a great feature that I have been looking for a couple years. I am guessing it sends your position via the cell phone
link to a central site, then relays that to other users of the app. Kinda like the Waze app.

I have just looked into Fly is fun, looks like a nice app but i am looking for a gps or an app that give VFR charts for canada and this app doesnt, it seems like NAV CANADA has the coypight on all VFR map in canada and the only way to get digital version is from FORE FLIGHT and GARMIN by paying a yearly fee.

It seems there is lots of good review for FOREFLIGHT but there is a lots of comments saying the IPAD has poor to none brightness in full sun, anyone else here use an IPAD and FOREFLIGHT and could comment on the visibility of screen details when exposed to full sun?

The garmin is a nice option but looking at a 7 in screen that is below my knee when sitting on the seat of my ulm seems like it will be pretty hard to read fine prints and details.

I would like more input.
